As a boy growing up in Manhattan in the 1970s and into the 1980s everyone wore rubber shoe covers in the rain. GoodYear specifically if I remember correctly. Also, every cobbler would glue on rubber toppers to the soles of shoes for a couple bucks.

What's the size difference between your Park Ave's and the Alden balmorals? I'm a 9 in the Park Ave's and considering buying the calf perf tip bals in calf. I'm a 9.5 in the Alden full straps, but those are on the Aberdeen last.

Yea I prefer the lighter and brighter older Leeds over the newer darker ones. I occasionally find a used pair online which gives me the opportunity to see how they've been broken in before I buy. But sometimes it looks like someone used the wrong shoe polish on them, like dark brown or even black. It's hard to get it out of the creases. Ive heard conflicting descriptions of the color of your wearing. Some call it burgundy, cordovan, wine, british tan and even ox blood. What sequence would you put them in ranging from light to dark? Do you have any tips for getting the wrong color polish out of creases? Also, I saw a pair of shoes that had "11 D/B" printed inside. Do you know what the "D/B" stands for?

This reference should be bought from 2003 upwards as it has a solid gold bracelet while the pre 2003 has the hollow bracelet.

Last week, I bought (on Ebay) two pairs of Allen Edmonds penny loafers; Black and oxblood. Mine are also a bit tight across the mid (right) foot. Glad to know it's not just me. Thanks for the info.

I own Crockett and Jones. Outstanding craftsmanship and I am thinking of buying a pair of shell cordovan in burgundy, but I am concerned about the lack of color consistency especially in the toes.

I believe...or so it is I understand, the Allen Edmonds Leeds...is a true "blucher"...whereas, the Crockett and Jones, is simply a "derby". It was explained to me...that a true blucher has separate pieces of leather, (in this case shell cordovan), as the eyelets, and the eyelets of a derby are part of the "quarter" piece of leather. I could be wrong...but it is the way I understand it. Beautiful shoes. Both pair are phenomenal. I am not a rich man by any means, (yet I have the taste of one...lol), so I thrift many pairs of high quality shoes, and recently came across a pair of Allen Edmonds shell cordovan Leeds, for $9.99. I was quite excited. Of course they are in used condition, and will need some attention. A re-soling is immenent. However...there are no tears, rips, or major damage to them. I do need to work on the shell, for it has bloom ALL over them. They appear quite antique...as a result...lol. But I know...with the right Saphir products...I can make them look quite presentable. Love your channel...keep up the "good work".

Wow. Those burgundy, shell cordovan shade differences...are amazing. Absolutely stunning shoes. Would love to have the same in the Strand. The wingtips are gorgeous as well though. Beautiful shoes that can be passed down from generation to generation. Thankfully...these iconic styles stay relevant through the years. Thanks for sharing.
